Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday received Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

Larijani is currently in Ankara to attend extraordinary meeting of Parliamentary Union of Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Istanbul.

The guest parliament speaker will deliver a speech at OIC meeting which will take place in Istanbul on Wednesday. He will also hold talks with high-level officials.

During the extraordinary meeting of OIC Parliamentary Union, participants will discuss ending of Israeli attacks on Gaza Strip as well as extending of assistance to Palestinians. The extraordinary meeting will be held upon the call of Turkish Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan.

"Asian Parliaments Troika"

Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan conveyed Turkey's views on "a cease-fire, lifting the embargo, withdrawal of Israeli troops, and facilitating a compromise between Hamas and El Fetih" in a meeting held with the Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Ankara on Tuesday.

Sources said that the Iranian side supported Turkey's views in this issue.

"A solution alienating Hamas would not be realistic," Larijani said.

Erdogan and Larijani also discussed economic relations.

Erdogan stressed that the trade volume between Turkey and Iran must be increased to 20 billion USD.

Both leaders focused on the need to complete the project by which Iranian natural gas would be carried to Europe.

Erdogan reminded Larijani about Turkey's views on nuclear energy.

Discussing counter-terrorism measures, the Iranian side stressed the importance of working together against terrorism.

Erdogan informed Larijani about what Turkey has done so far on the issue of Gaza and what it plans to continue doing.

After having been asked by the Iranians about at which stage the Turkish delegation is in the region, Erdogan said that the "Turkish delegation is presently in Damascus and will proceed to Cairo later this evening (Tuesday). The Turkish delegation is working to attain a good result".

A member of the Iranian Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee will arrive in Turkey next week.

Sources told that Iran, Syria and Indonesia have established the "Asian Parliaments Troika".
