Emine Erdoğan, the wife of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, will host spouses of Arab leaders in İstanbul on Saturday to raise awareness of the rising number of civilian deaths in the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Israel launched its offensive on Dec. 27 against Gaza.
Israeli ground forces invaded Gaza over the weekend. Nearly 600 Palestinians have been killed, according to United Nations figures.
"Emine Erdoğan has sent invitations to spouses of Arab leaders. Qatari Emir Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani's and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's wives have already confirmed their participation in the meeting," sources told Today's Zaman on Tuesday.
The meeting aims to collect financial assistance for the Gazan people, while raising people's awareness of the ongoing tragedy, the same sources added.
