Turkish President heads to India before Bangladesh trip

Turkish President Abdullah Gul left for India on Sunday.

Gul is accompanied by several ministers and a crowded delegation.

In an earlier statement, the Presidency Press Center said Gul is scheduled to meet with Indian President Pratibha Patil as well as Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Foreign Minister Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna, Ruling Party (Congress) chairman Sonia Gandhi and Main Opposition Party (BJP) chairman Swaraj during the visit.

Gul will also join Turkish-Indian businessmen forum and inaugurate Turkey's Consulate General in Mumbai.

Gul will also be decorated with honorary doctorate by Amity University in New Delhi.

"Bangladesh contacts"

President Gul will proceed to Bangladesh from India on February 12.

Gul will meet Bangladesh's President Mohammad Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, Finance Minister Abu Maal Abdul Muhith and have meetings with the representatives of business world within the scope of Turkey-Bangladesh Business Forum during his 2-day visit.

Gul will also attend a ceremony where University of Dhaka will confer honorary doctorate on him.

The statement said bilateral commercial relations and ways to boost cooperation opportunities would be discussed during Gul's visits to India and Bangladesh.
