“33rd violation,” read the daily’s headline concerning US F-16 planes that crossed Turkish airspace illegally, citing a statement published by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) on its Web site. The TSK, which had thus far announced only Greek air space violations, announced on Sunday that two US F-16 planes crossed into Turkish airspace from the Iraqi border for a four-minute period on May 24. It has been said that it is impossible for the US planes, which are equipped with the latest technology, to cross over on to the Turkish side by mistake. Numerous rumors persist that the US may have been making an attempt to intimidate Turkey as it has concerns about a possible Turkish intervention in northern Iraq. Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül said he was not informed about the issue, the daily reported.

“Not this party or that party but stability is the verdict that should come out from the ballot boxes on July 22,” read the daily’s headline, quoting the remarks of Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodities Exchanges (TOBB) President Rıfat Hisarcıklıoğlu during the union’s 62nd General Assembly. The slogan of the meeting was “Turkey wants its future,” which was widely interpreted as a message to the politicians after recent political fights. “We want only one thing to affect our business, which is stability and confidence in our markets.” Hisarcıklıoğlu said, stating that the real problems of Turkey were unemployment and the judiciary. “The judiciary should act objectively from now on,” said Hisarcıklıoğlu.
