Turkish security forces confiscated 12 wireless radios, logistic equipment and medical supplies in a lorry in the southern city of Mersin. It was revealed that all those equipment was sent from a European country to the terrorist organization PKK. Driver of the lorry was detained for aiding and abetting to the terrorist organization.
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will receive Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan later today. During the meeting, President Sezer is expected to designate Prime Minister Erdogan to form the 60th government.
The EU released a report in which it said that the Democratic Society Party (DTP) was associated with the terrorist organization PKK. The report said that everyone knew it as an open secret.
Turkey's rivers and lakes have begun draining rapidly due to increasing global warming. While applications will be received during the first 10 days of the 30-day period, votings will be held during the other 20 days.
Democratic Society Party (DTP) parliamentarians who shook hands with deputies from Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) during oath-taking ceremony held in the parliament on Saturday said that they would also watch matches of Turkish national soccer team. DTP deputy Sirri Sakik stated that they would go to stadiums to watch matches of national soccer team. Sakik stressed that they would also act with compromise in regard to problems of the country, noting that they hoped a new period to begin.
Sisli Mayor Mustafa Sarigul said that Republican People's Party (CHP) failed during the general elections because there was a breakaway between CHP and the people. Sarigul stated that democratic process and rules did not function in the party.
Democratic Society Party (DTP) parliamentarians shook hands with deputies from Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) during the oath-taking ceremony in the parliament on Saturday. MHP and DTP deputies said that Turkey should back this new beginning. Cihan Pacaci from MHP stated, "we don't have any problem with the party which was elected with votes of the people." Mehmet Sandir from MHP remarked, "DTP took a step and we reciprocated it. This must be supported." On the other hand, Sirri Sakik from DTP said, "we took the first step for domestic peace."
Justice & Development (AK) Party Chairman and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will start to work on formation of the 60th government on Monday. Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will designate Erdogan to form the new government. According to the Constitution, the new government must be formed in 45 days.
The EU expressed its concerns in a report that recent polarization between Kemalist groups and religious groups could give rise to a political tension in Turkey. The report claimed that the Kemalist group is opposed to the fundamentalists, Kurdish nationalism and liberalism. The report also indicated that the Democratic Society Party (DTP) was associated with the terrorist organization PKK. It added that the 10 percent electoral threshold is anti-democratic.
Motorcyclist Kenan Sofuoglu achieved a historic success and became the first world champion of Turkey in motor races. Although he was ranked second in the 10th leg of the Supersport World Championship in Britain, Sofuoglu won world championship.
Prof. Ergun Ozbudun, who prepared the draft for a new constitution together with a team of academicians, stated that he submitted the draft to Justice and Development (AK) Party and the discussion process would start from now on. "I think, it is necessary to refer to Ataturk and his ideal for civilization in the constitution, however, if we only understand the '6 arrows' principle out of Ataturk's principles and reforms, this would create problems," Ozbudun said. "A democratic constitution should not be engaged to an ideology. It should stand at an equal distance to various ideologies," he added.
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan will undertake the duty of forming the new government this week. Meanwhile, he will determine the candidates for parliament speaker's office and presidency. On the other hand, Foreign Minister and Deputy Premier Abdullah Gul's candidacy for presidency should become clear for the formation of the new government. If Gul becomes a candidate, current parliament speaker Bulent Arinc might demand to become the Deputy Premier.
Commenting on Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) chairman Devlet Bahceli's shaking hands with deputies from Democratic Society Party (DTP) in the parliament on Saturday, MHP secretary general Cihan Pacaci said, "we have to trust in him/her who takes the oath on his/her honor."
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the chairman of the Justice and Development (AK) Party which appeared as the winning party in the general elections held on July 22nd will start to work on formation of the new government on Monday. Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will receive Prime Minister Erdogan at 11:00 a.m. at Cankaya Presidential Palace. Sezer is expected to designate Erdogan to form the new government.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki, who will start talks in capital Ankara tomorrow, will be carrying the draft of a quite critical bilateral agreement in his briefcase, regarding the fight against terrorist organization PKK. Acknowledgement of PKK as a terrorist organization is one of the major topics of Turkey's demand list submitted to Iraqi governments that took over the administration after the fall of the Saddam regime in the country.
