TURKIYE


During his party's first group meeting held at the parliament, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) chairman Devlet Bahceli said, "We will be the address of the national stance, compromise, tolerance and dialogue". "Everybody should understand that tension and polarizations do not lead to any results," Bahceli affirmed.

Akbank, a renowned Turkish bank, will raise one of the highest loans of the Turkish banking history, it was reported. According to a statement by Akbank's Managing Director Zafer Kurtul, the bank has authorized the international consortium to draw in a 1 year termed syndicated loan worth 1 billion Euro.

ZAMAN

Justice and Development (AK) Party has named Koksal Toptan as its candidate for speaker of parliament, the second highest state post of the country. "Office of the speaker is one highest positions that a politician can climb," Toptan told reporters. Opposition parties' reactions to Toptan's candidacy were also positive.

Besiktas soccer club of Turkey beat Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova 3-0 in the second leg of the European Champions League second qualifying round match in Tiraspol on Wednesday. Besiktas advanced to 3rd qualifying round to challenge Swiss team of Zurich on August 15th. Besiktas' scorers were Bobo (2) and Koray.

YENI SAFAK

Justice and Development (AK) Party named its candidate for Parliament Speaker with a mini election in the party. MPs also named Koksal Toptan. Erdogan sent delegations to the opposition parties to learn their views. Cemil Cicek, who was considered among the probable candidates, said he would not run for the Parliament Speaker. On the other and, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) named Tunca Toskay for Parliament Speaker.

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, who was known for purchasing British Chelsea Club, is getting prepared to buy his second hotel in the Aegean. Abramovich, who bought Istanbul Safisa Hotel in southern city of Antalya two years ago, arrived in Marmaris town of Aegean city of Mugla with the 6th biggest yacht of the world. It was reported that Abromovich would buy a few hotels just for the billionaires of Russia.

VATAN

Abdullah Gul, who became a candidate for president particularly with the pressures of Bulent Arinc in the process prior to elections, now says, "we got 47 percent votes. The injustice made to me has an important part in this victory. I must be in Cankaya." However, on the other hand, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "we won a victory in the elections. However, the matter is not personal, but we should consider it from a wider perspective." According to recent news, Erdogan will be insistent on Gul's withdrawal. Speaking to his close friends, Erdogan said, "we had a very successful 5 years, and we were awarded. We should keep our promise to take Turkey to the targets of 2012. We should preserve stability and compromise whatever the cost is. I will not put Turkey into a risk."

Following an inquiry he carried out within the party, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan named Koksal Toptan as the candidate for Parliament Speaker. Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Deniz Baykal said his party would vote for Toptan. Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) also responded affirmatively. Toptan, who entered the parliament in 1977, worked as culture and national education minister.

CUMHURIYET

Justice and Development (AK) Party, which experienced several "reception crises" while Bulent Arinc was acting as the parliament speaker, elected Koksal Toptan for such position this time, whose wife does not wear a headscarf. AK Party officials also held talks with Republican People's Party (CHP), Democratic Society Party (DTP) and Democratic Left Party (DSP) all day long yesterday. CHP officials declared that they received Toptan's candidacy favorably. Toptan will pay visits to leaders today. Meanwhile, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) nominated Tunca Oskay for parliament speaker's office.

The cuts in the water supply in capital Ankara affected the health services as well. Some of the hospitals in the city cannot accept any patients or perform operations other than urgent cases. Water is carried with 20-ton capacity tankers to the hospitals which usually consume 150-200 tons of water per hour.

RADIKAL

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who paid a recent visit to Ankara on Tuesday, was alleged to have requested a general amnesty for members of the terrorist organization PKK as a provision of a proposed cooperation agreement between Turkey and Iraq. Iraqi delegation objected to sign the agreement as Turkey rejected Maliki's request and insisted on extradition of terrorists and joint military operation against the PKK.

As Justice and Development (AK) Party wants to have the new president to approve the new parliament, party's executive board announced Koksal Toptan as its candidate for parliament speaker. AK Party now will move to parliament's council of chairmanship as soon as possible to start presidential voting rounds.

HURRIYET

The ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party announced Wednesday Koksal Toptan as its candidate for speaker of parliament. Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan hence took the first step for reconciliation which he said would seek after general elections. Eyes are now on AK Party's would-be-candidate for the president as political circles believe that Erdogan would not risk creating tensions as for the top state post.

"We will play a constructive role in the new parliament. We will not leave hands that want to shake hands with us, in the air. However, we will not tolerate hands that shoot bullets to Turkish troops," said Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Devlet Bahceli on Wednesday. Speaking to MPs during MHP's group meeting, Bahceli indicated that "the foundations of national and indivisible unity of the country are based on the principles of one state, one nation, one flag and one language. We can compromise on certain issues only if others respect those principles".

MILLIYET

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is not expected to reveal his clear stance regarding the presidential candidate till next week. Meanwhile, FM and Deputy PM Abdullah Gul does not tend to withdraw his candidacy for presidency. During Justice and Development (AK) Party's Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) meeting held yesterday, contrary to expectations, the presidential election issue was not handled thoroughly. According to MKYK members, Erdogan has left this issue to next week. PM Erdogan will either announce Gul's candidacy or propose another candidate from AK Party, who has a lower profile.

AK Party has nominated Koksal Toptan as a candidate for parliament speaker's office. Toptan does not have a "National Vision" background and his wife does not wear a head scarf. Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Deniz Baykal decided to support Toptan's candidacy as well. According to sources, Toptan will most probably be elected during the first session.

SABAH

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan named Koksal Toptan as candidate for Parliament Speaker after he carried out an inquiry in the party administration and among his MPs. Wife of Toptan does not wear headscarf.

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli made a call to Justice and Development (AK) Party and said, "don't behave stubbornly, make compromise. Otherwise, a crisis may erupt again." Speaking about Democratic Society Party (DTP), Bahceli said, "we will not leave hands that want to shake hands with us, in the air. However, we will not tolerate hands that shoot bullets to Turkish.
