Five Turkish soldiers have been killed in a landmine explosion in southeast Turkey, security sources said, blaming the blast on PKK.
Thursday’s attack came at a time of mounting speculation that the army may cross into northern Iraq to launch an operation against PKK members based there.
Another 11 soldiers were wounded, four of them seriously, in the blast as their vehicle drove over the landmine in Sirnak province, near the Iraqi border.
The blast follows Tuesday's bomb attack in the capital Ankara, the worst in at least a decade which authorities said looked to be the work of the PKK.
Earlier, army sources had said the landmine was detonated by remote control, although other security sources said it was triggered by pressure as the vehicle was driven over the mine.
