Turkish Speaker says ex-DTP MPs should take lessons

Turkish Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin said that deputies whose political party was outlawed by the Constitutional Court, should take lessons from the past.

"I understand their desire to continue their political career. But they need to take lessons from what happened in the past. They also need to act carefully not to face new problems in the future. Otherwise we will face the same difficulties once again," he said.

Asked whether there were new arrangements about closure of political parties on their agenda, Sahin said that he was in favor of an amendment to the Article 69 of the Turkish Constitution about the political parties in line with the Venice criteria.

Earlier, nineteen deputies of the Democratic Society Party (DTP) decided to resign after their party was banned. They changed their mind later and decided to return to their seats at the parliament.
