The Brisa Bridgestone Sabanci Tyre Industry & Trade Corporation and Turkish Pirelli Tyres Corporation, which had halted the activities in their factories in the northwestern province of Kocaeli on February 24, resumed manufacturing on Tuesday.

After suspending the production for a week due to the ongoing global economic crisis, the two companies restarted manufacturing on Tuesday, said Hasan Huseyin Cakar, the head of Tyre-Labor Union's Kocaeli branch.

The manufacturing at Brisa and Pirelli's factories restarted with the midnight shift on Tuesday, Cakar said.

During the last one week, nearly 2,200 workers from the two companies took a leave of absence but they remained on the payroll, he added.
