Having successfully launched Turksat 3A, a new-generation communications satellite, earlier this month, Turksat is preparing to launch two others --Turksat 4A and 5A, as Today's Zaman reports.
Turksat 3A was launched from French Guiana on June 12 and was put into orbit shortly after its launch on board the Ariane-5, a European expendable launch system.
The satellite will enable satellite and cable TV operator Turksat to offer telecommunication services as well as direct TV broadcasting services over a broader area than that covered by its existing satellites, covering Turkey, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia.
Turksat now plans to launch its sixth and seventh satellites, 4A and 5A. It will decide on the features of Turksat 4A in August and launch it in 2011.
Turksat 4A will offer broadcasting services covering the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia and Africa.
The company will start working on 5A soon after 4A is launched. Turksat Director Ozkan Dalbay stated that 5A will be designed and constructed by a team of Turkish engineers.
