A policeman and two Muslim fighters were killed in a 20-hour gun battle in Indian occupied-Kashmir, police said.

Another 15 security personnel were wounded in the firefight when soldiers stormed a place, on a tip-off, late on Tuesday near Sopore town, north of Srinagar, Kashmir's summer capital.

In the region's winter capital, Jammu, shops and businesses remained closed on Wednesday in protest against the government for backing down from transferring forest land to a Hindu shrine trust.
