The memo, presented by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, was approved during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The complete details on the programme will soon be published in line with the UAE's keenness to deal with the international community transparently, Shaikh Abdullah said.
Awareness programmes on the nuclear energy project will be introduced for UAE citizens, he added.
Analyses and studies, which were conducted by official agencies on supply and demand for local electricity, found that power generation by the use of nuclear energy represents a competitive option commercially and environmentally, WAM noted.
The UAE will work towards setting up a nuclear energy authority with an initial capital of Dh375 million.
The authority will be mandated to evaluate and develop a peaceful nuclear energy programme in line with the recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
