Ukraine signs new gas monitoring deal: Russia's Gazprom

Ukraine has signed a fresh copy of a gas transit monitoring agreement and removed earlier conditions, Russian gas export monopoly Gazprom said on Monday.

"A Gazprom delegation conducted negotiations this morning in Kiev. As a result of the negotiations, the Ukrainian side signed .. (the agreement) without any conditions whatsover," the Russian firm said in a statement.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Sunday declared the monitoring deal null and void because Ukraine had added conditions to which Russia objected.

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin and the head of Russian gas giant Gazprom , Alexei Miller, were flying to Brussels on Monday for a new round of gas talks, sources close to the talks said on Monday.

A Gazprom source said Miller would need to sign again a gas monitoring deal with the European Union and Ukraine after Kiev agreed to remove additions to which Moscow objected. Sechin was also in the delegation, a source in Brussels said.
