United Nations special envoy for Cyprus Alexander Downer separately met President Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias in Lefkosa on Tuesday.
Downer said that peace talks on ethnically- divided Cyprus this September offer possibly the best chance in years for a deal that has been eluding the island for decades.
He added that "Developments over the past months have fostered a genuine sense that prospects have perhaps never been better to achieve a comprehensive settlement."

The talks were attended also by Taye-Brook Zerihoun, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General's special representative to Cyprus and head of UN mission in the island.
Downer will appear at a press conference on Tuesday and assess the meetings.
