The West Hollywood City Council in the Los Angeles area on Monday night unanimously approved a symbolic, non-binding resolution calling for the impeachment of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
This is the first city council in Southern California to pass are solution to this effect.
Several speakers urged the council to approve the resolution, citing the Bush administration's conduct in the Iraq War.
"I am hopeful that other Democratic leaders will begin to see this movement and want to take action," Councilwoman Abbe Land told local TV KCAL9. "I know that often in our city we are sometimes the first to bring up things, but we have been able to change public policy in this little city."
Experts consider Bush or Cheney's impeachment unlikely because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Francisco has said it will not be considered.
