The United States would not comment on Thursday on Syria's charge that Israel bombed its territory.
Asked about Damascus' accusation, White House spokesman Tony Fratto said, "decline to comment."
State Department spokesman Tom Casey said he had seen news reports in which Syria accused Israel of bombing its territory but he said he had nothing to substantiate them.
"I have seen press reports of Syria claiming one thing and Israel denying it," said Casey. "I don't want to comment on what at this point in time is speculation."
"I'm not going to speculate on stories that as far as I know don't have any basis in fact."
Asked whether the United States had asked either Israel or Syria for their version of events, Casey said he was not aware of any US contacts with either government on the issue.
