The Eastern Turkish province of Erzurum will host the eighth edition of its annual International Dadaş Film Festival from May 16-20, Turkish news agencies reported over the weekend.
Füruzan Yerdelen, one of Turkey's most distinguished female short-story writers, who only uses her first name as her pen name, will be the guest of honor in this year's festival, which will also host Yeşilçam veterans Nebahat Çehre, Eşref Kolçak and Engin Çağlar as special guests, the festival's organizers told the Anatolia news agency on Saturday.
The festival will feature recent Turkish and European films, Nil Gürpınar, the head of the festival committee, told Anatolia, adding that this year's theme would be “Basın ve Sinema” (The Press and Cinema), recognizing the role media has always played in the promotion of films.
Yeşilçam actors Çehre, Kolçak and Çağlar will be joined by screen and stage actor Şefik Döğen and producer Abdurrahman Keskiner to become the five recipients of the festival's special honors for their contributions in Turkish cinema during the 1960s and '70s.
