Middle East's largest calligraphy exhibition in Erbil

Under the patronage of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, an exhibition of Hilyah Sharif, calligraphy involving the qualities of Prophet Muhammad (SAV), is opening in the Northern Iraq capital of Erbil.

Erbil next week will host a Hilyah Sharif exhibition of calligraphy involving the qualities of Prophet Muhammad. Under the patronage of the Prime Minister of the Kurdish Regional Government, Nechirvan Barzani, the exhibition which will open on May 1st will be the largest calligraphy exhibition in the Middle East.

Some of the works belonging to one of the world's most important contemporary collectors, Mehmet Cebi, will be showcased in Erbil. The first Hilyah Sharif exhibition held in Erbil will be attended by Nechirvan Barzani and Turkey's Culture and Tourism Minister Omer Celik.

Barzani said, "No doubt, the opening of such a calligraphy exhibition will be important and beneficial for the strengthening of spiritual and cultural relations.”

"I find it valuable for us as the children of Islamic civilization to meet around ‘writing’ at the cradle of thought and art” Celik stated while expressing gratitude to the administration and city of Erbil for their hospitality.

Around 53 works of Hilyah Sharif will be displayed at the exhibition. The calligraphy collection consists of calligraphic works which depict the physical, humane and moral qualities, attitudes and actions of the Prophet Muhammad.
