Second-hand booksellers will this week be making the most of the numbered days of the İstanbul summer, transferring their wares outdoors for the annual open-air Beyoğlu Sahaf Festivali, or the Beyoğlu Bibliopole Festival.
Taking place this year for the fifth time, the festival, which was previously held in Taksim's Gezi Park, is this year taking place in front of the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) building in the Tepebaşı district of İstanbul, occupying a plot fresh in the memory of İstanbul book-browsers as the former location of the annual TÜYAP Book Fair organized by the TÜYAP Fair and Exhibition Organization Inc., an event which now takes place at the less central location of the TÜYAP Fair and Convention Center in İstanbul's Beylikdüzü district.
Getting under way on Tuesday and running until Sept. 18, the festival boasts a total of 72 stands with sellers offering a vast selection of books ranging from textbooks and old out of print volumes to guides and new novels.
An event fast gaining a reputation as an invaluable archive for book lovers, sellers will be coming from as far as Ankara to peddle their wares across the 12-day festival period.
