Turkey has been declared the guest honor at the annual Beijing Book fair, which was launched with a special ceremony attended by Turkey's deputy Culture and Tourism minister Abdurrahman Arici.

During the ceremony, Chinese organizers granted awards to some foreign scholars and authors including Turkish publisher Cem Kizilcec.

Established on a 932 square meter plain, where three stands were allocated to Turkish publishing houses., the fair hosts in total twenty publishing houses. It was a significant opportunity to introduce Turkish books and authors to the peopleof China.

Traditional Islamic arts such as calligraphy also played a significant part in the fair, where the artists had the chance of exhibiting their skills. Furthermore, there were exhibitions such as “Ottomans from a Chinese perspective,” “Anatolian Folk Toys,” and “The Domes” which exhibited Turkish Islamic culture.

The Turkish Directorate of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Education also had stands in the Chinese fair.

Fatih Project to be introduced

Developed by the Turkish Ministry of Education, the Fatih Project, a long-term project to integrate the Turkish education system with digital equipment, is due to be introduced to Chinese clients. This would be the project’s first international fair.

The increasing number of visitors shows the intense interest and willingness to strengthen cultural ties between two countries. The fair will last till 31st August.
