Turkish museum to host two Japanese exhibitions

Istanbul's Pera Museum will host two Japanese exhibitions from August 6 to October 3 as part of Japanese Year in Turkey activities.

The "Japan Media Arts Festival in Istanbul" exhibition focuses on two specific aspects of media arts: the Creative Mind and the Narrative Mind. The exhibition explores these two aspects through award-winning works from past exhibitions of the Japan Media Arts Festival as well as recent works.

The second exhibition "Ikuo Hirayama: Turkey, A Crossroad of Culture between West and East" consist of several paintings of Hirayama, one of the most well known representatives of the Japanese style painting Nihonga. Hirayama, who passed away in December 2009, took the Silk Road as the main theme of his paintings and paid several
visits to Turkey.

The exhibition will be held in cooperation with the Hirayama Ikuo Silk Road Museum Foundation and the Consulate General of Japan.

"Japanese Year in Turkey" activities began on January 4 with an opening ceremony at the Turkish-Japanese Foundation in Ankara. The activities include concerts, exhibitions and performances by Japanese artists. Prince Tomohito Mikasa of Japan also paid a visit to Turkey in July to mark the Japanese Year in Turkey.
