Turkish photography master Ara Guler's exhibition 'Old City' at the Merkur Gallery in Istanbul, featuring colorful views of Istanbul that have not been exhibited together before, will remain open until Wednesday.

Being the city of his dreams and his birthplace, Guler's exhibiton has a wide range of pictures of Istanbul. From bouldering streets to wooden-bay windowed house with a smoking chimney through to cobblestones pavements and fishing boats, a lot of scenes of old Istanbul can be seen in the exhibition.

"If my photography of Istanbul hadn’t existed, those old days, would have been forgotten today [...] There is nothing left from the Old City. The city's aesthetic has changed. Civilization is going forward, but people have lost sense of beauty," Guler said.

Adopting the style of a great tradition of social documentary, Ara Guler constantly intersects cinema and literature with each other in his photographs, who has a distinguished place in the world history of photography.

'Photography Annual Antalogy' in Britain had announced him as one of best seventh photographers of world.

In 1962, he assumed the title of 'Master of Leica' from Germany, which was given only to few photopraphers.
