During his visit to Kuwait, Turkish president Abdullah Gul gifted the Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir As-Sabah with a historic 114-year-old document.
The document was in fact a letter dated on 21 September 1900, written by the Ottoman chief judge of the region Mubarekkussabah Pasha to the governor of Basra Muhsin Pasha regarding the opening of the Hamidiya Mosque in Kuwait.
The letter explained how the new mosque, which was named after the Ottoman sultan of the time - Abdulhamid II - was opened.
During the meeting, the two world leaders fittingly signed a contract to increase co-operative on archives. On receiving the gift, the Kuwaiti leader thanked Gul and joked 'Only you would have a document like this.'Last Mod: 02 Nisan 2014, 16:24
