Ten Baluch separatists were killed in a clash with security forces on Sunday in southwestern Pakistan, the latest in a string of clashes between the two sides since last week, officials said.

The clash occured during a search operation in the bordering area between southwestern Baluchistan and southern Sindh province, Khan Waseh -- spokesperson for the paramilitary force Frontier Constabulary -- told Anadolu Agency.

Some 30 separatists and a troop were killed in another clash on Thursday in remote Sui town in Baluchistan.

Government forces have faced rebellion in natural resource-rich Baluchistan for decades, with separatists claiming the region was forcibly annexed by Pakistan following the partition of British-controlled India in 1947.

The ongoing wave of insurgency was triggered following the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti, a veteran Baluch politician in a military operation launched by the country's former military leader General Pervez Musharraf in 2006.

Rich in copper, gold, and natural gas, Baluchistan makes up 42 percent of Pakistan’s territory.
