A 5.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Pakistan's southern Nawabshah district killed two people, injured 50 and destroyed more than two dozen mud and wooden houses, according to Mustafa Jamal Qazi, the administrative head of the district.
The moderate earthquake jolted the city at 3.55 am, sending panicked residents to the streets. Many left their houses barefoot as the tremors continued for 10 to 15 seconds, eyewitnesses said.
"I felt that someone had shaken me strongly," Kashif Zia Qureshi, a local resident told the Anadolu Agency. "I woke up by the screams of my family members who were shouting and running out of the house."
Qureshi said there were two aftershocks 15 and then 30 minutes after the original earthquake.
Pakistan is a quake prone country. Nearly 400 people were killed when a 7.7-magnitude quake hit the country's Balochistan province in September 2013.Last Mod: 09 Mayıs 2014, 13:59
