A team of Kyrgyzstan border patrol police killed two individuals in a fire exchange near the southeastern China border on Wednesday.

Border guards rushed into the area after being tipped off about an alleged murder of a hunter, but were ambushed by an armed unknown group.

A statement by the Kyrgyzstan border agency said that its special operations unit has launched an investigation to find the armed attackers who escaped after the clash.

Kyrgyzstan is one of the ex-Soviet Turkic republics in central Asia, bordering Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
