A 6.5-magnitude earthquake jolted India’s Andaman and Nicobar islands on Friday evening, but the possibility of a tsunami has been ruled out, Indian media reported.
“An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale occurred some 70 kms east of Indira Point at 7:11pm today,” Ministry of Earth Sciences Secretary Shailesh Nayak told Press Trust of India.
“We do not see any threat of a tsunami warning due to this. However, we have issued a general warning and have kept our system on high alert,” Nayak added.Last Mod: 22 Mart 2014, 11:00
