At least eight Iranian security forces were killed by gunmen in the Sistan-Baluchestan region, which borders Pakistan, according to Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency.

"Terrorists entered Iran from Pakistan and killed eight soldiers," Ali Asghar Mirshekari, deputy governor of Sistan-Baluchistan province, told IRNA.

The news agency said the guards were on patrol when the attack occurred. The attackers, believed to be from the Jaish ul-Adl organization, fled back to Pakistan after the assault.

The organization is a Sunni group based in Pakistan and was founded by Abdul Malik Rig in 2012, a member of the Jundallah organization.

Iran accuses Pakistan of implementing lax measures on border security and said terrorist groups were using Pakistan's border as a platform to launch offensives against the Islamic Republic.

Pakistan and Iran had signed an agreement on border security management in February 2013 to boost cooperation to overcome terrorism, human trafficking and counterfeit currency.
