A police officer, an Afghan civilian and 10 Taliban militants have been killed in clashes between Afghan security forces and the Taliban in the northern provinces of Badakhshan and Faryab, according to officials.
Badakhshan provincial governor’s spokesperson, Ahmad Navid Furuten told Anadolu Agency that the security forces launched an operation against Taliban militants who were preparing an attack on the Varduch district of Badakhshan. He added that seven militants were also captured.
Meanwhile, Faryab’s Chief Constable, Turyalev Abdyani, said that seven militants were killed and a civilian and three children wounded during the clashes there.
The security forces operation came a week before Afghans are due to vote for a new president in elections.
