A new regulation prohibits Arakan Muslims in the Arakan state in western Myanmar from having more than two children.
State spokesperson Win Myaing said that the new regulation came into being after a commission established by the government to research the attacks against Muslims in the country’s west suggested that a birth control program be enforced among the Muslim population.
The new regulation will be enforced in the two counties near the Bangladesh border where there is the Muslim population is the densest. The clashes between Muslims and Buddhists in the Arakan (Rakhine) state has led to a large number of deaths, mostly among Muslims, and has forced nearly 125 thousand people from their homes.Last Mod: 25 Mayıs 2013, 16:13
