United Nations Deputy Spokesman Eduardo del Buey stated on Thursday that the recent decision of Myanmar's authority regarding a two-child limit on the Arakan (Rohingya) Muslim inority would be discriminatory and a violation of human rights.
Buey told reporters that the UN Human Rights body warned the authorities of Myanmar previously over the same issue and asked them to remove such policies or practices.
The UN describes the Arakan Muslims as one of the most persecuted minorities in the world.
In addition to being tortured, displaced, forced into travel and trade limitations, and murdered, Arakan Muslims now face child-limitation policies.
