The Chinese and U.S. militaries are holding the first humanitarian assistance and disaster reduction joint actual-troop drill from November 12 to 14, 2013 in Hawaii of the U.S.

According to People's Daily Online, the drill is postulated that China and the U.S. make joint efforts to rescue a third country which is hit by a violent earthquake.

"During the joint drill held in the U.S., the Chinese side needs to get familiar with combat situations in different environments worldwide, and meanwhile be acquainted with foreign militaries, especially the trend in world military power represented by the U.S.", the report quated Hong Yuan, an expert in arms control of the Institute of American Studies under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).

Hong Yuan also held that the U.S. can not figure out China's military development, and thus needs to know the trend and real combat effectiveness of the Chinese military through the joint drill.

According to the report, the Chinese side has accepted the invitation from the U.S. side to take part in the joint military exercise codenamed "Pacific Rim 2014".

The Chinese and U.S. militaries have been interacting frequently with each other since the beginning of this year, such as the anti-piracy exercise held in August in the waters of the Gulf of Aden, the joint maritime search and rescue, and the multinational military exercise codenamed "Pacific Rim 2014" to be held in 2014, the report adds.
