A group of Chinese nationals searching for gold in northwestern Pakistan have been arrested along with their Pakistani guide, officials said Thursday.
“The Chinese have been detained on the complaint of provincial mining department as they had no permit for mining in the area,” district police officer Rab Nawaz told Anadolu Agency.
They were detained in Nizampur, an area 120 kilometers north of Islamabad, where they had been mining for a week.
Nizampur, located between River Indus and River Kabul, is famous for its untapped gold reserves. The police and the mining authorities have frequently taken locals into custody for illegal mining in search of gold but this is the first incident in which foreign nationals have been arrested.Last Mod: 29 Mayıs 2014, 12:32
