Curfew in India's Hyderabad after religious clashes

Police have imposed a curfew in parts of the Indian IT hub of Hyderabad after three days of clashes between Hindus and Muslims that killed one person and injured 80, police said on Tuesday.

Riot police have been deployed and 110 people arrested in connection with the clashes, which started on Saturday when a Hindu group replaced Muslim flags with Hindu ones on the streets during a festival.

The city is home to companies such as Microsoft, Google and Mahindra Satyam.

Police have imposed a curfew since Monday night in the Muslim-majority old part of the city, but the newer parts of Hyderabad which host big tech companies remain unaffected.

"Anybody creating trouble during the curfew will be dealt with firmly," A.K. Khan, the city's police commissioner, told reporters.
