Foreign soldier killed in Afghan shooting

NATO says one foreign soldier has been killed when a man wearing an Afghan National Army uniform fired at coalition troops working on a vehicle in northern Afghanistan.

A statement released by the alliance says coalition troops returned fire, critically injuring the shooter.

Friday's shooting, which is still being investigated, occurred on a coalition compound located in the Baghlan provincial capital of Pul-e-Khumri.

General Dawood Dawood, the senior Afghan police official in the north, said two Germans had been killed and put the number of wounded at eight.

The nationality of the service member killed was not released. The majority of coalition troops stationed in the area are from Germany.
