Intense clashes erupted in central Kashmir’s Budgam south of Srinagar on Saturday in which many civilians were injured.

Reports said that several people were injured after clashes broke out in Razwein and Dardpora villages of the district after forces tried to foil a pro-freedom rally. Clashes are going on at present.

Meanwhile, locals from Dardpora area of the district alleged that people had organised a freedom rally which was “attacked” by forces.

“As soon as people started assembling in Eidgah Dardpora, government forces including police, SOG, CRPF and army attacked them,” a newspaper report said.

“Hundreds of tear gas shells and pellets were fired on people resulting in injuries to dozens including women. Army men even chased women and beat them with guns and lathis,” reports added.

Sources said that injured persons have been shifted to Krimshore and Khansahab hospitals as forces had allegedly closed road to district hospital, Budgam.

Local sources said that people of many neighbouring villages have started marching towards Dardpora, soon after they heard about the incident.
