Indian soldiers on Monday shot dead six people trying to cross over from Pakistan into the disputed region of Kashmir.
However, Indian defense minister claimed in a statement that that people who were killed on the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri Sector were "fighters".
But Kashmir Media Service said that Indian siege and search operation in Uri killed people were "innocent" Kashmiri youth.
Uri sector lies near Pakistan border northwest of Srinagar Kashmir's summer capital.
On Monday in Srinagar, police opened fire at scores of people demonstrating against Indian rule wounding at least five people, police and witnesses said.
The civilians deaths have fuelled anger in Kashmir, where residents see India as an "occupier".
