The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a magnitude-6.1 earthquake in eastern Indonesia late Monday.
The quake occurred at just after 5:30pm (GMT), 318 kilometers east of the Indonesian archipelago, between Timor-Leste and the Maluku Islands. The quake’s depth was recorded at 18 kilometers.
No alerts were issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
Indonesia lies within the Pacific’s "Ring of Fire", where tectonic plates collide and cause frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
On July 2, 2013 the Indonesian island of Sumatra was hit by 6.1 magnitude earthquake that left 35 dead, 276 injured, and more than 4,300 homes damaged or destroyed.Last Mod: 04 Şubat 2014, 11:54
