Kashmir Bar Association members held a protest march in Srinagar. The protest march which comprised of lawyers of both High Court and lower court of Srinagar originated from the High Court Premises.
The protesting lawyers said, that Afzal Guru didn’t get a fair trial and he couldn’t hire a good lawyer for his defense.
India executed Mohammed Afzal Guru convicted in a deadly 2001 attack on Parliament. Guru's execution is an extremely sensitive matter in the Himalayan region, where most people believe his trial was not fair. Several rights groups across India, and political groups in Muslim-majority Kashmir, also questioned the fairness of his trial. After the execution, Guru was buried in the prison compound.
While interacting with media persons in Srinagar, spokesman of Kashmir BAR Association, Mian Qayoom said that Afzal Guru’s mortal remains should be returned to his family as soon as possible.
He said that until the mortal remains of Guru are not handed over to his family, we will continue the protest.
