A youth was killed and three others were injured when government forces fired on protesters in India-occupied Kashmir's Kulgam district, Kashmir Dispatch reported on Friday.

Protests against occupation forces had erupted after two local men were killed in Chenigam village of the district.

The slain men have been identified as Abbas Malik of Nowpora and Manzoor Ahmad Malla of Chenigam in Kulgam.

Witnesses said forces fired after protesters hurled stones at them. In the firing, Tariq Ahmad Bhat, 26, was injured by bullet and shifted to sub-district hospital in Bijbehara. He later died at the hospital.

A medical source said that Tariq's body was taken by angry protesters from the medical facility to his native village.

The report said protests had escalated in the area after the killings and have spread to Bijbehara of neighbouring Anantnag district.
