Malaysia has used the platform of the United Nations to reaffirm its support for Palestine, calling on the international community to adopt a framework that would bring an end to the occupation of Palestinian lands.
Permanent representative to the U.N. Datuk Hussein Haniff said Malaysia fully supported the establishment of a sovereign state that would live side-by-side with Israel in peace and security and called for the occupation to be brought to a close.
In comments carried by the Malaysian national news agency Bernama on Tuesday, he lambasted the international community for its failure to address "Israel's persistent and flagrant violations of international law, international humanitarian law, U.N. resolutions and advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice."
Addressing the 69th Session of the General Assembly in New York on Monday, he said: "While this committee works towards [a] solution of ending impunity on many issues including on violations and abuses of human rights, the blatant illegal actions of Israel continues unabated.
"As we speak about justice, rule of law and legitimacy, we believe that a two-State solution is the only way moving forward."
Haniff was talking in an address on Agenda Item 69: Rights Of People To Self-Determination.
