The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) said that it filed a protest over Philippine troops' bombing in Moro region despite a ceasefire.
The army fired artillery rounds and rockets on Monday, involving fighting between two MILF commenders for control of a river delta in Datu Piang town.
"We filed a protest," Mohagher Iqbal, MILF's chief peace negotiator, told reporters in phone conversation. "It's a violation of our ceasefire. Even if our men were fighting each other, it does not justify the military's involvement."
Meanwhile, the Central Committee of MILF through its military arm BIAF will impose suspension order for BIAF Commanders Adzmie and Abunawas.
“Any member or officer of the MILF including its military arm, BIAF, who shall violate any of the policy or policies of the MILF and the Code of Conduct of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces shall be suspended automatically,” MILF quoted a source as saying on website.
Philippine army said that fighting between commenders has forced "scores of civilians" to flee th region, according to Reuters.
Iqbal said the army should have allowed the MILF to resolve the conflict after it suspended two warring field commanders to defuse tension ahead of Ramadan, which starts on Wednesday.
Iqbal said the MILF leadership has been working to help the two arrive at an amicable settlement to their land dispute.
The military air strikes occurred hours after MILF chieftain Ebrahim Murad held a news conference and expressed hope of signing a peace deal with the Aquino government. Murad, however, expressed his apprehensions over the hawkish statements coming from the military lately.
A truce has been holding for about a year between MILF and Philippine government on Mindanao island. The Muslims have said they are concerned about the the new government's plan to overhaul talks.
