10 people have been killed in riots in central Myanmar, a local MP said Thursday, in the country's worst communal violence since Buddhist-Muslim clashes in western Rakhine state last year.

A local resident also reported seeing more than 10 dead bodies.

However, police in Myanmar say at least three mosques destroyed in rioting that broke out in a town in the centre of the country.
