A NATO force member was killed in a militant attack on a U.S. air base in Afghanistan, the organization said Wednesday.

Bagram, the main military airfield in Afghanistan 60 kilometers  north of Kabul, was attacked Tuesday evening, according to a NATO statement.

No details of the incident were given and the nationality of the casualty was not disclosed.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the rocket attack on the airfield.

On Monday, a NATO service member died in eastern Afghanistan as a result of a “non-battle injury”, according to an earlier statement. Nine NATO troops have died in Afghanistan this year, eight of them Americans.

Following the end of the combat mission in December, around 13,000 NATO troops stayed for a two-year training mission.
