OIC head calls on Muslims to be more generous to Pakistanis

The secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) said Sunday the Islamic world had a huge potential that needed to be activated.

OIC SG Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu met with representatives of humanitarian aid organizations in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Speaking to AA prior to the meeting, Ihsanoglu said that OIC-member states had organized a wide-scale gathering to ensure coordination of humanitarian aid sent to regions hit by disasters.

Noting that Pakistan was currently faced with one of the biggest disasters in its history, Ihsanoglu said, "We gathered here to coordinate the things to be done and the regions to be worked at".

Pointing to the remarkable potential of Muslim countries, Ihsanoglu said, "this potential should be activated and coordination should be ensured".

Thanking the Turkish nation for its support to flood-hit Pakistan, the secretary general said Turkey and Pakistan had a historical friendship and deep ties.

Ihsanoglu also said that he hoped people would be more generous while helping Pakistan especially during the holy month of Ramadan and wounds of millions of people would be healed.

Aside from Ihsanoglu, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, representatives of the Turkish Red Crescent and Turkish International Cooperation & Development Agency (TIKA), officials from Pakistan's disaster management authority and the United Nations (UN), as well as representatives from humanitarian aid organizations of 30 OIC-member states attended today's meeting in Islamabad.
