Some 1387 afghan soldiers were killed over one year in attacks staged by the Taliban, Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry said Wednesday.
“An average of 4 soldiers per day were killed from March 2013 to March 2014”, the Defense Ministry’s spokesperson Zahid Azimi said, noting that this is the highest level of fatalities in this time period compared with previous years.
According to the ministry’s data, 85 percent of the dead soldiers lost their lives from roadside explosives. During the last year the Afghan army staged more than 1500 military operations and 500 special operations against the Taliban, Azimi said. “The Afghan army took just training, logistic and air support from international forces”.
Meanwhile, according to the same data, thousands of militants were killed on operations staged by the Afghan army. Currently, the army is making last preparations to secure the environment for April 5th Afghan elections.Last Mod: 26 Mart 2014, 12:46
