Pakistan denied reports Friday that it was shutting down operations of international NGOs in the country.
“There [is] no such move,” said Foreign Office spokesman, Qazi Khalilullah, in a statement responding to media reports regarding the closure of international NGOs’ operations in Pakistan.
“A process to streamline the activities of international NGOs is underway. The prime minister [Nawaz Sharif] has set up a high powered inter-ministerial committee for this purpose,” he said.
“The committee will make recommendations for bringing improvement in the existing rules and procedures for screening, regulation and monitoring of [international NGOs] to ensure transparency, efficiency and compliance with laid down framework,” he added in the statement.
