Army jets continued to pound suspected militant hideouts in a troubled tribal belt of Pakistan on Sunday killing 38 people, an official said.

"Various militant hideouts and a landmine manufacturing factory were destroyed in a fresh bombardment early Sunday," a senior army official told the Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity as he is not allowed to speak to media.

A huge quantity of weapons and ammunition was also destroyed in air strikes that targeted various parts of the Tirah valley of Khyber Agency that touches neighboring Afghanistan, the official said.

The official said that 38 militants were killed in the bombardment, and 6 hideouts were completely destroyed.

Tirah valley is considered a stronghold of the pro-Taliban Lashkar-e-Islam group which was pushed out by an army onslaught in Khyber Agency in 2011.

Army airstrikes killed nine militants in northwestern Hangu district on Saturday and another 35 suspected militants in restive North Waziristan earlier this week.
