Pakistan Taliban elect new leader

The Pakistani Taliban have elected a new leader following the death of former leader Hakimullah Mehsud in a drone strike yesterday.

The Pakistani Taliban have promoted their number two commander Khan Sayed to replace their killed leader Hakimullah Mehsud, according to security officials.

Commander Khan Syed, better known as Khalid Sajna, is currently serving as TTP chief for South Waziristan, once a TTP stronghold, where he is leading fighters now fighting the Pakistani army.

TTP leader Mehsud and two of his top lieutenants were reportedly killed in a drone attack in North Waziristan on Friday, intelligence and Taliban sources have told AA earlier.
