Pakistan successfully tested an intermediate range Shaheen-II (Hatf-VI) ballistic missile on Thursday, officials have said.

The missile is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and has a range of 1,500 kilometers, they added.

The test was conducted days after regional rival India test-fired its own nuclear-capable Agni-II missile.

The Shaheen-II (Hatf-VI) ballistic missile's point of impact was in the Arabian Sea, which is part of the Indian Ocean.

“Pakistan is a peace-loving nation with no aggressive intentions against any one,” Lt General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, head of the Pakistani army’s Strategic Plans Division, said while addressing the launch ceremony at an unknown location.

Nuclear rivals Pakistan and India that have fought three wars since gaining independence from British rule and have often conduct tit-for tat missile tests.
